Rejar Block Finished

Pictured above is Jackie S completed block. It is really lovely and all the stitchers used a lot of thought in presenting a visual guide to some portion of the book. Great work everyone.

I hope in the next 2 weeks to get caught up with this blog. We had a very sick dog for a long time, and yesterday she went to doggie Heaven. It will take me a while to adjust -- never really completely -- but I will get caught up here. Thanks for your patience.

Narnia Block Finished !!!!!

An email tonight from Hideko brought two wonderful photos.
The above photo is of Rendi's block finished and all set to be winging it's way from Japan to California. Beautiful work everyone -- this is one gorgeous block.

Above is the lovely work done by Hideko -- so much time and thought was put into this block by all the stitchers.

Rendi's "Narnia" block is the first one finished and it is a beauty. We are all looking forward to seeing the rest of them completed and safely home.

We've hit a road block of sorts. The blocks haven't moved any in the last few weeks. I think everyone is busy with the "end of summer" activities. Soon we will have more photos to share. This is a great round robin and I think everyone is anxiously awaiting seeing the finished blocks -- I know I am.

MEET BETTINA

Today's mail brought a wonderful surprise.
Look who came for an extended visit

Meet Bettina --- along with Bettina, sister of Beaker, came this note from Lynn:

"As I told you, Professor Pennypickle's assistant, Beaker, was unhappy to hear that Hitty had had an uncomfortable experience with mice. After a meeting with his numerous relatives (mouse moot, you know), Beaker's adventurous sister, Bettina, has decided to come for an indefinate visit to the Hitty Girls to assure them that not all mice are annoying!
She's dressed up in her best bow and button.
Love from Temecula, Lynn & Beaker"

Bettina took the Hitty's aside and opened the book, Hitty Her First Hundred Years and found the picture she wanted to show them --- "See", said Bettina, "the mice were only washing your face -- they meant you no harm".

Well, as you can see, Bettina is a hit with the girls. (below) They have become instant best friends. The girls asked about the "Hitty Block" that was in Temecula and Bettina told them all about it and how wonderful it is -- Beaker told her -- and Bettina was thrilled to get to see a block first hand herself (she was glad Jackie hadn't made it to the post office yet and she was able to admire the block with the Hitty girls).
Thank you, Lynn, for adding another wonderful story to the favorite book round robin blocks. I hope all of you have had fun reading about them too.

Is she here yet???
Poor Beaker, Assistant to Professor Pennypickle at the Imaginarium Museum in Temecula, CA, is racing around the museum looking for Hitty. Beaker even left his cookie jar in search of Hitty.

In Professor Pennypickle's absence, Beaker is to present the Key to the City of Temecula to Hitty. Beaker climbed to the book shelves and asked Mr. Monkey if he had seen Hitty. The monkey was unable to help Beaker so Beaker climbed back down the shelves and sat on a pile of books that Professor Pennypickle was using for research. He carefully sat there and looked about the room in search of Hitty -- the Key to the City still in his hands (paws? feet?).

Finally Beaker climbed to rthe radio unit at the museum and broadcast an appeal for anyone who has seen Hitty to please contact him.

You can imagine Beaker's surprise when he learned that the "real" Hitty would not be there -- but the traveling round robin block from CQI. Lynn saw the dissapointment in Beaker's eyes and allowed him to closely inspect the Hitty block -- he thanked Lynn and asked that she forward the Key to the City along with the block. Lynn assured Beaker that she would do this and added a lovely boquet of Temecula flowers to the block and what a wonderful block it is. Hitty, via her RR block has traveled to Japan (Hideko) and twice to California where she visited Disneyland (Rendi) and Lynn (Temecula). Next the block travels to New York state for a visit with Jackie S and then back to Illinois and home with the Hitty girls.

At last the girls were able to see a photo of their wonderful block -- they are so excited and want to thank Hideko, Rendi and Lynn so very much --- and Jackie S even though the block hasn't made it to New York yet -- we all just know it will be fabulous.

Lynn's Block Just Before it Left Illinois for Japan

Well, we fell a bit behind in keeping up the posts in this blog.
We were on vacation and now there are so many photos --- so, we have decided to just post our photos with the blocks as they arrive in Illinois. (We can't wait for Hideko's and to meet Kitty and see the carp - and Rendi is taking us to
Disneyland -- we've asked for ear hats LOL). In the meantime, Lynn's block arrived with the lovely addition of Salamanca (and now we want a horse) -- Here Hitty Brown is showing the lovely embroidery of Jackie S.

Before Lynn's block left Illinois for Japan, Hitty L had her picture taken with Jackie Y's addition --- the parrot that was given to the children by 'The Grand Sophy'.

Finally, here we are with Lynn's block just before it left Illinois. The "Favorite Book" round robins are really so much fun and there are so many wonderful and imaginative additions to all the blocks. Check out further down to see photos of the other blocks.

Soon I should be receiving Rendi's block from Jackie S. and will post photos of it too before it leaves here.

We were just about to shut down the computer for the night when an email from Hideko came in -- along with a photo of the block for the Hitty girls --- Japan and Hideko was the first stop for their block in the round robin. The girls are just so thrilled. They send a million "thank you's" to Hideko. Here they are gathered around the computer screen looking at the wonderful addition Hideko has made to their block.

Here is a note from Hideko that came with the email:

Maybe you need some explanation what your Hitty saw in Japan. Please
read the following.

On fifth of May in 2007, Hitty came to Japan for the first time. It
was a Children's Day. She met a very pretty kitten.
"Hello, I am Hitty. Who are you?"
"I am Kitty."
Kitty is not so old as Hitty but also a very popular character for
Japanese girls over 30 years.
"What are those fish swimming in the sky? Are they tasty?"
"Oh, we can't eat them. They are koi-nobori (flags of carp) and have
no meat but only air in their body. They are symbol of strong
health and energy. Parents want their children grow like them."
Originally May 5th was a Boy's Festival Day in Japan.
"Then what do you eat today?"
"Kashiwa-mochi and chimaki." Both are sweets mede of rice and each
wrapped by oak and bamboo leaves.
"And do you have any special event?"
"To take a special bath."
"What is special?"
"A bunch of Iris leaves is put into the water."
It is said Iris leaves are good for health.
"Do you have a Girls' Festival Day, too?"
"Yes, it's March 3. It's a doll festival. You will see lots of
Japanese friends. Come to Japan again."
Hitty and Kitty promised to see again.

So, there are carp flags and irises. And though you might not
know, "Hello Kitty" character goods are so popular for years here.

We have been helping Jackie Y work on Jackie S "Rejar" --- now at last we can put away the black Wisper thread. But Hitty Lotz thinks we should add a fan to the block so the lovely ladies can hide their blushing faces behind it.

Oh, WOW, look what was in our email this morning.

Can you believe how beautiful this is?

This is a close-up of Jadis --- maybe now we can get the movie to look at.
Lynn had outdone herself on this gorgeous piece of work. The beading is so lovely,
and well, just WOW --- We are so excited about seeing the other blocks --
so please send them to us so we can see first hand all the lovely work you
all have done. Now we have to really get Jackie S. block finished so we can send it
on to Hideko.

How are you doing, Hideko, Rendi, Jackie S? This is a really fun round robin and
we are so happy to be sharing in the fun.

Jackie S' block has arrived and the Hitty girls are so excited.
They quickly hung the block and began pulling threads, beads,
all sorts of goodies out to see how they would look on the block.
Little do they know that I have a plan of my own, and none of
the items they pulled will be used --- well, maybe one or two --
after all, the are so excited about all this.

CQI Favorite Book RR ~ Hitty Her First Hundred Years

My Hitty girls were so excited when they heard I had chosen "their" book for this round robin.
Hitty Lotz and Hitty Brown dashed to get their trunk ----
A big trunk for such petite ladies,

Joined by a few other Hittys from the Young household (including a baby and a young girl)
they quickly began packing their trunk.

It was with regret that I had to inform them that only the CQ block was traveling ---
Sweet girls that they are, they just smiled, rehung their clothes and took the trunk back to it's storage place.

Since Hitty's are traveling (or pocket) dolls, it was hard for them --- but when I explained that all you wonderful stitchers,
Hideko, Rendi, Jackie S. and Lynn will be stitching something special to depict your home, they once again
smiled and were content. They will be looking forward to photos of your additions and the final return of the block.
